Queensland Ambulance Service


QAS provides assistance to palliative patients in their home upon request by a health care professional or personal carer in circumstances where:-

The patient's condition unexpectedly changes,
The patient requires urgent assistance following a fall or other injury, or
The patient requires transport to an alternate facility for ongoing provision of palliative care.

Located beside Ipswich Hospice, Hilda’s House provides practical, emotional and spiritual support to people who are facing the end of their life, their loved ones and for people who are bereaved.

Dove Cottage – Caloundra Hospital


Dove Cottage is a purpose built 10 bed in-patient Palliative Care Unit on the Caloundra Hospital campus.

Referral by health professional via Sunshine Coast District Palliative Care Outreach Service. Phone: 07 5470 5333

Visits to the unit by potential patients and family welcome.



Caresearch is an online information service providing access to relevant evidence and quality information about palliative care to:

Patients, Carers and Families
• Information and resources about living with or caring for someone with a serious illness, preparing for the end of life, and how to manage bereavement, grief and loss.

Health Professionals
• Information designed to support clinical practice by summarising the state of the evidence and by providing clinicians with access to relevant literature where possible.
• Information on a range of educational options relevant to palliative care.
• Resources to support the work of researchers in palliative care.

Resources are also available that can be printed or downloaded to share with friends and colleagues. Hard copy materials can also be ordered online.

Advance health directive


An Advance Health Directive allows you to plan what medical treatment or health care you would like in the event that you cannot make decisions for yourself. It also enables you to appoint an attorney for health and personal matters if you want.

Burial Assistance Scheme


Burial Assistance Scheme is a service provided by Queensland Government for when you cannot afford a funeral for a relative or friend who passed away in Queensland.
Eligibility for burials assistance

To apply for burials assistance, you need to:
•be a friend or relative of the person who passed away in Queensland
•have spoken to other family members to confirm that no one can arrange or pay for the funeral
•have no prior funeral arrangements
•if you have signed a contract with a funeral director, you must get written approval from the funeral director to release you from the contract.

If you are able to get burials assistance, the Department of Justice & Attorney-General will organise and pay for a simple burial or cremation on your behalf.

On the Line provides remote support services ranging from telephone helplines to call back services, video counselling, moderated forums and real-time online counselling. These remote modalities are proven to increase uptake and engagement, offering anonymity, immediacy and 24-hour availability.

Sarina Hospital


Sarina Hospital is a 16-bed hospital that provides emergency care, outpatients, general sub-acute admissions, palliative care, and voluntary elective alcohol detoxification to the Sarina township and surrounding communities.
