Palliative Care Australia (PCA) is the national peak body for palliative care. Working with consumers, member organisations and the palliative care and broader health workforce, PCA aims to improve the quality of life and death for people with life limiting illnesses, their families and carers.

The online program, Dying To Talk, can help guide you through a discussion with your loved ones about how you would like to be cared for as you approach the end of your life. Palliative Care Australia also produce a number of written information resources.

Ozcare is a statewide service that can work with your GP or Specialist Palliative Care Service to provide palliative care for Queenslanders over the age of 18 .

Services include palliative nursing at home or at an aged care facility. Can also provide respite care at home, in a day respite centre or in an aged care facility. Other home services include personal care, domestic assistance and specialist dementia services.

Mackay Hospital and Health Service Palliative Care

Mackay Hospital and Health Services Palliative Care offers care and support in Emergency, In-home and Hospital settings along with Palliative Care information and education for patient, carer and family members.

A referral from a GP or other doctor is needed to access the service.

In an emergency the patient can attend the hospital Emergency Department to receive appropriate care and referral.

National Carer Counselling Program

The National Carer Counselling Program is funded by the Australian Government and provides short term counselling services specifically for carers.

Counselling can assist carers with coping and adjustment skills, grief and loss issues, practical problem-solving techniques, emotional support as well as health and wellbeing skills.

QAS provides assistance to palliative patients in their home upon request by a health care professional or personal carer in circumstances where:-

The patient's condition unexpectedly changes,
The patient requires urgent assistance following a fall or other injury, or
The patient requires transport to an alternate facility for ongoing provision of palliative care.
